Information and Resources for Farming and Agricultural Careers
The TIAH which is made up of careers stakeholders from across the farming and growing sectors, was formed in November 2022 and meets regularly has undertaken a range of individual and collaborative projects to strengthen provision of careers information in agriculture and horticulture. These projects are aimed to support and inform both influencers (teachers, careers advisors, parents and guardians) and young people.
They have created a hub where they have collated resources, information, sources of support and opportunities from across the industry. There is also signposting to the careers work of all organisations above and a whole host more. There are detailed profiles and short practitioner videos for a diverse range of roles, including veterinary technician, agronomist (plant vet) and agricultural technology operator. There are opportunities to learn more about growing sites / farms, employers and practices through resources, such as virtual work shadowing experiences, and links to competitions.
If you know a young person who pines to work outdoors with animals, needs to share their gift of green fingers or would like to turn their skills with technology to flying an agricultural drone or servicing other high-tech machinery, drop into their Careers Advice Hub and take a look around by following this link: Careers Advice Hub - TIAH.
For those who would like to check out their understanding of modern agriculture and horticulture they also have a certificated piece of CPD called ‘Reimagining careers in agriculture and horticulture’. This short, online course is a multiple-choice myth-busting exercise that will disprove the 15 most commonly held misconceptions around this industry. Pathways to a sustainable

Tips and Tricks for applying for apprenticeships... HERE
How apprenticeships work
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.
As an apprentice you’ll:
- be an employee earning a wage and getting holiday pay
- work alongside experienced staff
- gain job-specific skills
- get time for training and study related to your role (at least 20% of your normal working hours)
Apprenticeships take 1 to 5 years to complete depending on their level.
Levels of apprenticeship
Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels.
| Level | Equivalent educational level | |
|---|---|---|
| Intermediate | 2 | GCSE |
| Advanced | 3 | A level |
| Higher | 4,5,6 and 7 | Foundation degree and above |
| Degree | 6 and 7 | Bachelor’s or master’s degree |
Higher Level Apprenticeship
Some apprenticeships may also give you an additional qualification, such as a diploma. Click HERE to see some examples of higher level apprenticeships.
