THE LGBT+ GROUP: Positive Space

Broadwater School’s vision is to embrace people of all sexualities and gender identities, by cultivating a spirit of acceptance throughout the school. We create opportunities to celebrate LGBT+ Pride, such as hosting bake sales and running whole-school assemblies. There are also displays up around the school that inform and celebrate a plethora of sexualities and genders. Rainbow badges are available for all students who wish to show their support.

Broadwater School has an active LGBT+ group called Positive Space. The group meets every Wednesday and Friday at lunchtime in room 108c.  All students and staff are welcome to come along and talk about LGBT+ ideas and subjects and express their support. The group is well attended by students in KS3 and KS4. Our aim is to ensure that all students feel welcome and safe in our school and that they have the space and opportunity to share any concerns or questions about their identities with supportive adults. We also have links with Surrey Pride and the Woking Twister group.

Whilst we feel that students can talk to any member of staff that they feel comfortable talking to, there are four named adults in the school that students can approach if they have questions about their sexuality and gender identity. These are: Ms Blanchfield, Mrs Jones, Mrs Hanson and Sophie Lamb our Eikon worker.
