About Us

History and Ethos

Established in 1968, Broadwater School is a co-educational comprehensive state school for students aged 11 – 16.

On the smaller side, our current student population is approximately 700. The size of the school helps to generate its distinctive ethos and atmosphere, where the individual is known and catered for.  Every student is important. Students are able to develop their characters and gifts, not only through their studies, but also through extensive opportunities in sport, drama, music and the arts.  High expectations of our students, our staff and our relationships ensure that we are all able to achieve personal, social and academic success.

We see it as our prime duty to ensure that students develop a love for learning and gain the best possible examination results. 2019 marked the best results in our school's history!

Students are encouraged to take active responsibilities within the school, through the School Council, the Library, as members of various clubs and activities, and through the Prefect structure.  They have achieved good success in fund-raising ventures for charity, and students readily give their support for evening functions.

Our modern and well-equipped school buildings are situated in spacious grounds in an attractive rural setting near Broadwater Lake, two miles from the centre of Godalming. With extensive sports facilities,  we have 2 all-weather pitches (one sand based and one water based), and we are home to Guildford Hockey Club. We have an up to date Fitness Suite and Dance Studio and have recently refurbished our Science Labs. Our new ICT Suites (including the provision of laptops) provide each student with individual access, and enrich Computer Science and ICT lessons. Our Library has recently been developed to further facilitate our Accelerated Reader Programme and houses thousands of books of every genre to suit and challenge all levels and abilities.

The school received an Ofsted inspection in October 2019 under the new framework and achieved a ‘GOOD’ overall judgment with OUTSTANDING in Personal Development (click HERE to see the report).

The report details the excellent work of the school as we move towards becoming an outstanding school.
