CHALLENGE HOUR

There are many opportunities for extracurricular and sporting activities during lunchtime and after school and the Library Resources Centre is open every day including lunchtime and after school for reading, further study and homework. 

Some of the activities which take place either during lunchtime or after school include: art, athletics, badminton, brass music, basketball, chess, cooking, choir, coding, design and technology, journalism, cricket, drama, football, hockey, netball, rugby, photography, positive space, table tennis, science, volleyball, health related fitness, RPG, and sewing to name a few.

Students also have the opportunity to learn musical instruments with extracurricular music lessons linked to various school groups, bands and choir.  

A recent Challenge Hour survey indicated that: 

  • 64% of students completed a residential

  • 65% report challenge hour clubs has improved their confidence. 

  • 38% feel it has helped them in the class room with their studies. 

  • 78% rate our provision of clubs as Good/excellent – they recognise they are getting a great experience and lots of opportunities.   

  • 71 % of students say it has been good for their mental health. 

In 2024 there are 590 places for students to take up across a variety of 14 residential trips, broadening horizons beyond their day-to-day experiences including DofE, Cadets and Challenge Week trips.
