Anti-Slavery Society

It is 1833 and big changes are taking place.

The First Reform Act has changed Parliament. Middle class men have the vote and the new industrial towns have MPs for the first time. Parliament is in a reforming mood. There is a new Factory Act, to control child labour, money is being spent of Schools for the first time ever and a new Poor Law is being planned.

Most controversial of all, slavery has been abolished in the British Empire.

Your brief is to produce a file on how slavery was abolished. It was the climax of a long campaign by the Anti-Slavery Society to change public attitudes and opinions.

There are profiles to complete on each of the six key players shown on this page.
Finally there will be a file to complete on the work of the Anti-Slavery Society.

Instructions: Click on each of the pictures to load the profile for that part of the investigation.
