About our Governors

Mark Oliver

I am a recently appointed Co-opted Governor and link governor for Computing & Business Studies, serving on the governors’ Children & Learning Sub-Committee. I moved to Godalming in 2013 with my wife and two young children. I graduated from the University of Bristol and then joined the graduate training programme at Nestlé. Since then, my professional career has spanned various high profile companies including the BBC, L’Oreal and now PepsiCo where I work in the commercial function.

Simon Fletcher

I have experience in the engineering and mobile communications industry, an understanding of governance as a Director of a not-for-profit company, and am a member of the executive management team of a Consulting and Advisor company. I am a serving member on the Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Surrey.

Helen Melia

I have been a Co-opted Governor since July 2017, and am a member of the Resources Sub-Committee and Link governor for Year 7. I’ve been a local resident, in Bramley, since 2002. I am a solicitor who has worked for major oil companies for over 20 years and am now working for the UK’s largest petrol station operator.

Zarah Lowe

I am currently a Parent Governor and a member of the Governors’ Children & Learning Sub-Committee. I have previously been a Co-opted Governor and an LA Governor for Broadwater School for six years.

I have three children, one who has completed their education at Broadwater and one who has just started their GCSEs.

I have worked for both the private and public sector, more recently in education. In the past I have worked as a Project Manager and in Business Development. I am currently a Commissioning manager for special educational needs and/disabilities within the commissioning and development service at Surrey County Council.

Jane Macholl

I am a Parent Governor and a member of the Governors’ Children & Learning Sub-Committee, and link governor for the MFL and SEND departments. I have a degree in Foreign Languages and nine years’ experience of working in schools supporting children with SEND and I currently work as a Teaching Assistant in a Special Needs School catering for students from 8-18 years. Previously, I spent six years as a Business Manager.  Voluntary work includes two years as the Chair of a Parent Teacher Association of a local infant school.

Sarah Austin

I am a Local Authority governor and member of the Resources Committee since October 2017. I have always lived in Godalming and went to local schools including Broadwater. I studied Business Management at the University of Surrey and currently work for Rio Tinto in the Performance and Reward team.

Julie Rowling

I was appointed as a co-opted governor in March 2015. I serve on the Resources Committee and am link governor for English, the Learning Resource Centre and PE. In addition, I am the school's verifier for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. I have twenty years’ experience of working in local authorities in a variety of roles including finance and internal audit. I have been a Girlguiding leader since 2010 with Godalming Rainbows.

Lorraine Jackson

I was appointed in November 2016 as a teacher Governor and am the link governor for the Resources Committee. I have worked in various roles within the state education system for over 25 years but always as a teacher of English. I have been working at Broadwater School since January 2011 and I am currently, and very proudly, the Head of the Special Needs and Disabilities department.

Jon Gidley

I am a Co-opted Governor with 8 years at Broadwater School and have been a School Governor for over 12 years. I am trained as an “additional skills Governor” and am Link Governor for the sports centre as well as a member of the Resources Committee focusing on staffing and finance. I am a freelance project manager with 20 years’ experience in mobile telecoms - working with many household names in the process.

JH Kazi

Debi Lawson
