'Les Miserables' School Production 2018
Our school production this year was the ambitious and challenging ‘Les Miserables School Edition’. Auditions were held in December 2017 with rehearsals commencing in January 2018. Since that time we have had weekly rehearsals with weekend rehearsals being added during June and July. I can honestly say it’s been an absolute privilege working with such dedicated and talented young people. Every student involved in this production whether on stage, back stage or supporting crew have become a ‘Les Mis family’. The students have epitomised what it is to ‘work hard’ embracing the 4Cs (Caring, Creative, Collaborative and Critical) with seemingly boundless energy, commitment and undying motivation.
The three performances that took place last week achieved a high level of musical and dramatic professionalism and, again, this is something that has been evident in the way in which they have approached this challenging project over past months. We have received many comments of congratulations, all of which are thoroughly deserved by our amazing students.
Of course a mammoth project like this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all of the staff who have shared their skills in areas other than those of their daily working lives. A special mention must go to Mrs Link who makes our wonderful costumes from scratch with nothing more than a photo or vague description – not a pattern in sight!
Finally we must thank all of those in the wider community from musicians who gave their time freely, local theatre groups who allowed us to use their props and costumes, the Friends of Broadwater who provided wonderful raffle prizes and much needed refreshments and, of course, parents and guardians who supported their sons and daughters through the whole process.
Here’s to next year!
