Key Stage 4 Options

For Year 8 and 9 students:

It is important that students have a broad and balanced curriculum at GCSE.  In order to achieve the English Baccalaureate there is a clear expectation that many students will study a humanity subject (Geography or History) and a modern foreign language (French or Spanish).  For this reason the option blocks have been constructed to ensure that students do not narrow their choices too early.  It is expected that students at GCSE will study English, maths and science which are the core examined subjects as well as a range of other non-examined subjects.

Students currently in History and Geography sets HU1, HU2 and HU3 will be required to take either

  • History OR Geography.

Students currently in Spanish set 1 or French set 1 will be required to take either:

  • French or Spanish

All students will have a meeting with a Senior Member of Staff, to discuss final option choices.  This is to help guide and support them in their future careers.

Please see the information below which details the KS4 options for Year 8 and Year 9 students.
